Architectural Studies student Receives Martin Family Undergraduate Research Assistantship

Emily LeBlanc headshotThird-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies student Emily LeBlanc was selected to receive the Fall 2022 Martin Family Undergraduate Research Assistantship.

The Martin Family Undergraduate Research Assistantship is a semester-long student aide position hosted by the Center for Louisiana Studies. During the assistantship semester, students pursue research focused on the culture and history of the Acadiana region, preferably the early colonial history and culture of Acadians, Africans, Native Americans and Free People of Color.

"My interest for the Atchafalaya Basin began with my research for my studio project in the spring of 2022. I was designing a cultural center for the Atchafalaya Basin and became fascinated with the Bald Cypress trees. The Martin Family Assistantship gives me the honor of exploring prior documentation of the Atchafalaya Basin as well as the opportunity to research for the future of the basin from a design and preservation standpoint," LeBlanc said.
