Student Achievement

Job Placement

The School conducts an annual Career Fair that brings employers in the design fields to Fletcher Hall to meet with the architecture, interior and industrial design students. A number of these employers are alumni of our programs, and offer opportunities both within and outside the state of Louisiana.

As of May 2017, 50% of the 2016 interior design graduates and 66% of the spring 2015 graduates were employed in the design field.

Acceptance into Graduate Programs

None of our recent graduates are pursuing graduate degrees at this time. Typically, our graduates who pursue careers in interior design, work for three to five years and take the NCIDQ exam before considering graduate education. Since the establishment of the School’s MArch degree program in 2001, approximately five of our interior design graduates have gone on to pursue this advanced degree at the University.

Retention

All students in the School of Architecture and Design share the same sequence of courses in the first-year, and declare their majors officially at the beginning of second-year.
Enrollment in DSGN 101:

Year First time freshmen Total
2010 100 131

2013 60 90
2014 61 91
2015 77 110

Approximately 50 – 58% of these student totals go on to second-year in one of our three programs. Of the continuing students, approximately 25% declare a major in interior design.

Graduation Rates

In 2015, 25% of students continuing from first-year declared a major in interior design. Of that number, 98% are continuing into third year studio. Once students have successfully completed the second-year in our program, typically 98% go on to graduate in the program.
