Dr. Donggyu Lee is an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture & Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from Ohio State University, following a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Lee's academic journey began in South Korea, where he obtained both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Chung-Ang University in Seoul. In South Korea, he was involved in a range of architecture and urban design projects that engaged local communities, focusing on historic preservation, housing, mixed-use developments, and placemaking. His multidisciplinary background in Architecture, Urban Design, and Urban Planning informs his research and teaching, emphasizing the integration of design principles with community engagement, social responsibility, and advocacy.

Dr. Lee's research interests center on "community(-engaged) design" and the entities providing community design-related services for diverse communities. Specifically, his studies focus on examining the engagement efforts and techniques used by architects, urban designers, and planners in these organizations. His current research expands this focus globally, exploring how professionals in various countries develop and apply engagement methods and tools to better address local needs and concerns.
