William Riehm joined the faculty of the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2017. He is currently an associate professor. William began teaching in 2004 and has held positions at Mississippi State University and Louisiana State University. He teaches design studios, construction, design history, and drawing.
William holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans, and a Master of Science in architecture with a specialization in interior design from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. His is a licensed architect (1998), Certified Interior Designer (2006) and began working in design practice in 1991 focusing on adaptive reuse of historic structures and more recently on furniture design.
His research interests include design history, theory, preservation, and historical material culture, specifically as they relate to furniture as well as design pedagogy as it relates to these topics. William’s service roles are varied in the community and university, and he currently chairs the South Region of the Interior Design Educators Council.
