Kiwana T. McClung, Assoc. AIA, NOMA is a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, and an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture & Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Kiwana has worked on a variety of architectural and planning projects as an Architectural Designer with Coleman Partners Architects LLC. in Baton Rouge, LA and emerymcclure architecture LLC. In Lafayette, LA. She has served as faculty advisor to the UL chapter of NOMAS, the student organization for National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) since 2013. In 2016, Kiwana was awarded the ACSA Diversity Achievement Award for her work with UL NOMAS and for her efforts in increasing diversity within a school of architecture and curricula. Kiwana currently serves as Chief Diversity Officer for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she directs programming and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and Inclusion on campus and in the community.
Kiwana is heavily involved in service activity and her biggest passion is inspiring and mentoring students, especially those from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds. She is likewise invested in exploring diversity and equity issues in the built environment, higher education, and the Architecture profession, and in developing methods to counter the effects of marginalization and discrimination. Kiwana’s active research endeavors concern the socio-spatial intricacies of our increasingly globalized and multi-cultural societies and how they affect the built environment, architectural education, and the profession. Kiwana was educated at Southern University and A&M College and received her Masters of Architecture from Louisiana State University in 2012. Her past work experience includes residential renovations, numerous K-12 school renovation and master planning projects for East Baton Rouge Parish and St. Helena Parish Schools, resort hotels in the Caribbean, and various commercial retail projects around southern Louisiana.
